One of the road blocks to greater proliferation of 4K TVs, 4K home theater receivers and ultimately 4K video content, has been the confusion over the evolving HDMI cable specification. You need HDMI for your new and next TV, but which version? Can current 4K TVs and 4K home theater receivers deliver everything that the format promises? A coming update to this digital cable format sheds some light.
The HDMI Forum has introduced the latest version of the HDMI format: HDMI 2.0a.
According to the HDMI Forum, the specification has been updated to enable the transmission of high-dynamic range (HDR) content, which provides enhanced picture quality through its ability to deliver increased color capabilities and contrast levels. The update is now available to current HDMI 2.0 Adopters via the HDMI Adopter Extranet.
